Rosemary Smith

August 2, 1954 - March 30, 2011

Mrs. Rosemary Smith, age 56, wife of Hommer Smith, and a resident of Glenwood Drive in Columbia, Tennessee went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 6 pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. David Williams officiating. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. until the 6:00 p.m. funeral hour. There will also be a funeral service, on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church in Itta Bena, Mississippi with Rev. Jesse Payne officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Interment will follow on April 9, 2011 at McClain Chapel Cemetery in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Itta Bena, Mississippi she was the daughter of the late Lucious Sherman and the late Veloa (Carroll) Sherman. After moving to Columbia, Tennessee in 1992, she worked in many capacities in our community: with AON Insurance Company she served as a supervisor, with First Farmers and Merchants Bank she served as a book keeper and with the Magnolia Academy in Lewisburg, she served as a counselor. Her love for the Lord and His people was what really inspired her in life. In addition to her other occupations, she was the Assistant Pastor of In His Image church in which she was also the co-founder. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her thoughtful, caring ways will truly be missed by all of her family and friends. The world is now missing a jewel to which heaven has been adorned with as she made her entrance.

In addition to her husband, she left behind to cherish her memory two sons: Hommer Smith, Jr. (Tanea McClean) and Christopher Smith both of Columbia, TN; one Godson, Quenard Sanders of Columbia, TN; two brothers: Jesse Sherman of Chicago, IL and Curtis Sherman of Itta Bena, MS; four sisters: Jessie Thomas of Memphis, TN, Emma Sproles of Sidon, MS, Ernestine (Barry) McGraw of Itta Bena, MS, and Ruby Short of Itta Bena, MS and three grandchildren: Khalil Smith, Xtavious Smith, and Xavier Wells.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Frank Sherman and Leotis Battle, and two sisters Edna Lockett and Otha Mae Davids.
Honorary pallbearers will be brothers and nephews.
