Mr. Russell Roberts, age 85, husband of Edna Faye Roberts, and a resident of First Ave in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee passed away with his supportive & loving family by his side on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Hidden Acres Health Care in Mt. Pleasant.


Funeral Services for Mr. Roberts will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Mike Roberts, Jim Bailey, and William Owens officiating. Interment will follow at the Arlington Cemetery with Military Honors being presented by the American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends on Friday, July 15, 2011 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again on Saturday from 3:00 PM until service time at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Roberts was a native of Maury County; born to the late Etta Brooks Roberts (Mother) and the late Clarence Roberts (Father). He was a foreman at Stauffer Chemical for 33 years; he served our country in the Army during World War II, was of the Baptist Faith, he has had his membership at the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist church for over 58 years and served as a deacon for 55 of those years. Outside of his faith; one of his greatest accomplishments was his marriage to his bride that lasted 62 years last month. He hunted, he fished, and he loved baseball. He coached Little League and he played on the First Men’s League. He was known for sitting on his front porch on First Ave in Mt. Pleasant to see all his friends, neighbors, and waving to any all that passed by. His family stated; “he was the best dad and the best husband in the world.”

In addition to his wife; he is survived by 4 sons, Mike (Brenda) Roberts, Jerry (Sandy) Roberts, David (Vicki) Roberts, and Jeff (Angie) Roberts; 3 daughters, Brenda Roddy, Sue (Rickey) Lindsey, and Lynn Spears; one brother, Clarence Roberts, Jr.; 18 grandchildren, Jenny York, Jon Roberts, Darryl Haywood, Brent Haywood, Brandon Roberts, Angie Lindsey, John Lindsey, Wayne Lindsey, Alan Lindsey, Casey Brewer, Neylan Roberts, Bethany Duberry, Jason Roberts, Amber Roberts, Lindsay Call, Shelby Spears, Ansley Roberts, and Chance Rosson; along with 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Wayne Roberts.

Pallbearers will be; Darryl Haywood, Brent Haywood, Brandon Roberts, Jon Roberts, Neylan Roberts, John Lindsey, Wayne Lindsey, Alan Lindsey, Jason Roberts, Chance Rosson, Austin York, and Peyton York.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Rickey Lindsey, Wendell Spears, Tot Roddy, David Adkinson, Duane York, Jim Bailey, Buddy McKennon, Earl Cooper, David Ring, Hoss Holt, Former Little League, and Babe Ruth baseball players.

A special thanks to the NHC Home Healthcare, Caring Hearts Home Healthcare, and the staff of Hidden Acres Healthcare Nursing Home.

The family has asked that memorials be made to the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church at 8410 Smith Hollow Road, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.
