Evelyn Christine Owens

Evelyn Christine (Thompson) Owens, or as the family called her “Nanny”, age 80, a resident of Mapleash Avenue in Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Signature Healthcare in Columbia.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Owens will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Mullenix officiating. Interment will follow in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Heritage Funeral home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Giles County, she was the daughter of the late James Noah Thompson and the late Icie Pearl (Hardin) Thompson. She was of the Baptist faith. She shared her love with her husband Virgil Leon Owens who preceded her in death in 1993. She spent her life dedicated to the love and care of her family. She will truly be missed by all who knew her, but her gentle nature will never be forgotten.

Mrs. Owens left to cherish her memory two sons: Vance (Mary Ruth) Owens and Timmy (Mary Ann) Owens both of Columbia, TN; four daughters: Gail Owens of Lawrenceburg, TN, Martha (David) Alexander of Spring Hill, TN, Vickie (Joey) Allen of Columbia, TN and Vivian (Warren) Davis of Columbia, TN; four sisters: Nadine Watson of Columbia, TN, Vada (Ron) Richardson of Columbia, TN, Zada (Gene) Tomlin of Lewisburg, TN, and Irene Landtroup of Michigan City, IN; eighteen grandchildren: Davin Collins, Wesley Calton, Chrissy Calton, David Alexander IV, Candice Anderson, Markus Owens, Bobby Lee Owens, Heather Royer, Ryann Owens, Tommy Owens, Derek Owens, Jo-Jo Allen, Jessie Burton, Dustin Owens, Kaitlyn Davis,
Bo Davis, Callie Jean Owens and Nicole Byrd; twenty-seven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; and thirty six beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband of forty-nine years, she was preceded in death by two sons: Markie Owens and James Cellie Owens; four brothers: Bobby Thompson, Edward Thompson, J.L.Thompson and JR Thompson; two sisters: Inez Thompson and Lois Adams; two grandchildren: Ledeana Collins Jones and Handley Calton; great grandchildren: Justin Dodd and Contessa Dodd.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Harrington, Danny Harrington, Chase Patrick, Rickey Thompson, Terry Thompson and James Tomlin.

Honorary Pallbearers will include grandsons, staff of Signature Healthcare, the staff of Life Care in Centerville, TN, and Avalon Hospice.
