Ms. Jewell Verna McCandless Brewer, age 70, and a resident of Park Plus Court in Columbia passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
A Funeral Service for Ms. Brewer will be conducted on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Armstrong officiating; entombment will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 5 PM until 8 PM and again Friday from 9:00 AM until the service time. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Maury County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late James Matthews and the late Alice (Hunt) Matthews. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and had retired as a cutting room employee from Creekwood Textile Company. If you were to ask her what meant the most to her in her life, she would tell you that it was definitely her family. She was a very loving but outspoken woman. She enjoyed sports and even coached the summer league of fast pitch softball. She was an avid Alabama Football and Tennessee Titans fan. This loving lady will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She left behind to cherish her memory a son, Terry (Lura “Crickett”) McCandless of Lawrenceburg, TN; two daughters: Rhonda McCandless of Columbia, TN and Brenda (Clint) Cowley of Summertown, TN; a special niece, Sheila Mathews of Culleoka, TN; two sisters: Lou W. Ridley of Columbia, TN and JoAnn Mathews of Vernon, OH; seven grandchildren: Kiesha Johnson, Zac (Ashley) Hennessy, Amy (Ryan) Reynolds, Nikkie Brownell, T.J. McCandless, Mandy (Randall) Clark and Jasmine Nicome; eleven great grandchildren: Alexyss Hennessy, Zayson Hennessy, Ariel Reynolds, Keelee Brownell, Dierks Brownell, Aubrey McCandless, Dalton Crowell, Harley Johnson, Allyssa Clark, Kaylee Clark, and Laney Clark. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Harry Uselton, three sisters: Ruby Mathews, Bernice Warren and Mary Mathews Arbuckle and a special niece, Karen (Kay) McKenzie.
Pallbearers will include: Larry “Petey” Ridley, Danny Warren, David Warren, Keith Parker, Freddie Morton, and Cliff White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lori James, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
