John McKenna

December 16, 1919 - January 15, 2012

Mr. John Ellsworth McKenna, age 92, husband of the late Geanita McKenna, a resident of West James Campbell Blvd. passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Life Care Center of Columbia.

A Memorial Service for Mr. McKenna will be held in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2011 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Dave Zeigler officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. McKenna was born in Detroit, Michigan but spent 30 years making memories in Mesa, Arizona. Some of many achievements and pleasures of his life included playing the trumpet in many bands with the Navy Band being very memorable as he served our country in WWII. In addition to being a musician, he loved to sing. He was an avid fisherman and had an incredible love for his family. He was a retired plant supervisor from Solar Machine (a screw machine plant). When he was in Mesa; he was a very active member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Mesa. Locally, he made his church home and membership with the Central Christian Church out on Bear Creek Pike.

Mr. John is survived by two sons; William “Al” (Jenny) McKenna of Columbia and Michael (Candice) McKenna of Mesa, AZ; three granddaughters, Leanne (Rick) Burkey of Columbia, Sara (David) Stose of Columbia, and Carrie (Ryan) Seckman of Meza, AZ; three great-granddaughters, Nicole Shockley and Ryah Lehrman of Columbia, and McKenna Seckman of Mesa, AZ; five great-grandsons, Steve Shockley, Josh Burkey, Jake Burkey, Chance Stose of Columbia, and Christopher Hansing of Mesa, AZ; five great-great-grandchildren, Micah, Caleb, Israel, and Faith Burkey and Ava Shockley.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Earl McKenna, Frank McKenna, and Rita Butt.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Mr. John.
