Salvatore "Sam" Marckese

December 5, 1936 - March 28, 2012

Mr. Salvatore “Sam” Marckese, age 75, husband of Kathryn Marckese, and a resident of Woods Drive in Columbia, TN passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 31 from 5:00 - 6:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. They will celebrate his life with the Catholic rites at 6:00 PM on Saturday, led by Fr. Clare Hendricks of St. Catherine Catholic Church, and military honors provided by the United States Army. He will be laid to rest in Maury Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sam was born in Gary, Indiana to Antonio and Rose Libassi Marckese, on December 5, 1936. He served his country in the United State Army from 1958 – 1962.
His love for others was expressed through the time he gave to his career, family, and others. He was a meat cutter for 35 years with United Food Commercial Worker Union. While living in California, he coached girls’ softball for 25 years in Cypress, CA and at West Valley High School in Hemet, CA, as well as Pop Warner Football.

He had a passion for sports, especially football. He followed the Rams as well as high school football games. When not part of a sporting event, you would find Sam spending his most precious time with his family, either at home or travelling. Cruises and wineries were his weakness. With his Italian heritage, Sam loved visiting wineries. His most treasured location to travel was his ancestral home of Partanna, Sicily.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn, Sam is survived by a son: Anthony Marckese of California; 5 daughters: Joanna Bonfadini, Cathy (Scott) Moon, Deborah (Danny) Fetterman, and Jennifer (Joey) Punsalan all of California, and Kim (Roger) DeSarro of Columbia; 6 grandchildren: Ryan, Nicholas, Christopher, Zachary, Kristen, and Daniel. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family by marriage: Jim & Anita Thomas, Don & Sheila Eycleshymer, Ted & Snow Rainwater, and Rick Rainwater, as well as his mother-in-law: Mary Ann "Mom" Smith.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth.
