Mr. Ronald Alvin Grooms, age 72, and a resident of Experiment Station Lane in Columbia, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Van Boshers, Reverend Hubert Cunningham, and Keith Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00-6:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of the arrangements.
A native of Mount Pleasant, Alvin was born to the late Willie Grooms and Grace McCullom Grooms. He was a former employee of Mobile Chemical Company and Monsanto Chemical Company. Mr. Grooms later went to work for the Maury County Highway Department where he retired. He was known as a good person who enjoyed bird watching and coo-coo clocks.
He is survived by a brother: Harold (Jessie) Grooms of Columbia and two sisters: Thelma (Ray) Floyd and Kathleen McCoy of Mount Pleasant. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Sally Parfrey, Larry Grooms, Mike Floyd, Shirley Norman, Steve Grooms, Sue Barnett, Vicky Buie, Linda Myers, Patty Hollingsworth, Pam Cobble, Deborah Osborne, David Grooms, Sheila Henson, Jim Nance, Bill Nance, Cheryl Nance, and Timmy Nance.
Pallbearers will be Mike Floyd, Chris Prince, Larry Grooms, John Andrews, Charles Parfrey, Steve Grooms, Van Boshers, and Sheriff Enoch George.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the past and present employees of The Maury County Highway Department.
