Lora Ann Lasher

November 7, 1960 - May 28, 2012

Mrs. Lora Ann (Dibble) Lasher, age 51, wife of Scott Lasher, and a resident of Columbia passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lasher will be conducted Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Columbia First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 1 in the Hunter Room of Heritage Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Memory in Muncie, Indiana. Arrangements are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home.

Lora was born in Marion, Indiana, and raised in Muncie, Indiana. She was one of four daughters of Albert & Corriene (Beck) Dibble. Following high school, she trained as a medical assistant. In recalling Lora's life, her family was quick to remember her as a "determined, strong willed fighter." One of her greatest joys was teaching her daughters to cook. She collected and read cookbooks like novels, although she seldom used recipes in her cooking. Lora would absorb the "idea" of a recipe and make it her own when she cooked. She also taught her daughters the skills of freezing and canning, as well as gardening. Lora made sure her girls knew how to act like a ladies, yet that they weren’t afraid to work and get dirt under their nails.

Another aspect of her character was her passion and love for animals. Lora had a heart for animals in need. In fact, when relocating from Mississippi, her primary concern was finding enough land to have for her horses and other animals. Many of her decisions were based on the needs of her pets.

Scott recounted one of the greatest gifts his precious wife gave him - humor. As one who is highly structured, he would often come home to find his wife and daughters waiting for him with silly-string or super-soaker water guns. Laughter was a gift she gave to her family.

Above all - her love for animals, cooking, teaching, and enjoying the lighter side of life - Lora was a mother to Cassie and Amanda. She will always be remembered for her influence in their lives.

In addition to her husband, Scott, she is survived by her parents: Albert and Corriene Dibble of Muncie, IN; three sisters: Kay Dibble of Muncie, IN, Jane Smith of Cincinnati, OH, JoAnn Kriebel of Indianapolis, IN; and two step-daughters: Cassaundra "Cassie" and Amanda Lasher of Columbia, TN.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Clarence E. Beck; two grandmothers: Zera E. Boller Beck and Olive Hoag; two aunts: Mary Beck Reed and Rhea Beck Bower; and three uncles: James L. Reed II, Claude A Bower, and John Dibble.
