Bernard Ray Shipp, (lovingly called "Jack" or “Pop”) at the age of 79, made His transition to our Heavenly Father, Saturday, June 16, 2012, after a brief illness.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 am with Reverend Victor Goodman, Pastor of Wayman Chapel A.M.E., as the Eulogist. Interment will follow at Poplar Creek Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 4-8 pm in the Hunter Room of Heritage Funeral Home.

Jack was born on June 12, 1933 in Williamsport, TN (Maury County). He was the ninth child born to Thomas J. and Lillie Mae (Merritt) Shipp, both of whom preceded him in death. He was educated in Maury County Schools. In 1952 he was united in holy matrimony to Alethia Johnson Shipp. In their 60 years of matrimony they were blessed with six loving children. He was baptized in Kedron, where he united with the Kedron Original Church of God several years ago.

He worked as a farmer in Ashland city, then later in Williamsport, TN. He loved working with livestock and machinery. He was well known for his unique creations of walking canes. Jack was also employed with Southern Stone for many years.

He is lovingly survived by his wife: Alethia Shipp; his children: Jackie Ray (Debbie) Shipp, Michael Shipp, Howard (Janice) Shipp, Cordell (Dollie) Shipp, Theresa Shipp-Blake (David Sr.), and Fredrick (Kimberly) Shipp; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren; devoted sisters: Thelma Frierson, Nashville, TN; Delois (Ernest) Long, Smyrna, TN; sisters-in-law, L.C. Shipp, Donnelson, Dorothy Shipp, and Willie Jean Glenn. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends, Frank Cooper, James (Jim Lee) Jackson, and Raymond Payne also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Fredrick Shipp, Frank D. Shipp, Thomas R. Shipp, Esther Medlin, Idella Primm and Gertline Shelburne.

Pallbearers will be his nephews. Flower bearers will be his nieces and The Williamsport Riders (Ladies).
