Mr. Robert Carroll Hood, age 73, husband of Audrey Beard Hood, and a resident of Owens Drive in Santa Fe, TN, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 2PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Murray “Thomas” Culberson and Keith Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Atkison Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 4 – 8 PM and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements.

A native of Columbia, TN, Robert was born on May 20, 1939. He was the son of the late Robert Allen and Vernice Ethel Thompson Hood. He was married to his loving wife, Audrey, for over 46 years. Robert served our country in the United States Navy for four years and later joined the United States Army where he served an additional four years. He was a member of Mt. Wesley Nazarene Church. He previously worked at Peabody Coal Company and later retired as a truck driver from Columbia Construction. His family described him as being a faithful servant who loved helping people. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking turnip greens. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren. Robert was also an extremely avid and devoted Vanderbilt football and basketball fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: Steven Carroll (Karen) Hood of Columbia, Charles Allen (Nikki) Hood of Pearl, MS; brother: Billy Allen (Terri) Hood of Columbia; three sisters: Allette Hood of Columbia, Joyce (Ted) Houston of Columbia, Betty Jean (Walker) Huey of Nashville; eight grandchildren: Christopher Allen Hood, Pierce O’Neal Hood both of Santa Fe; Cory Glenn Hood, Cameron Reeves, Gabriel Reeves all of Pearl, MS, Cameron Hanvy of Columbia, Heather Potts of Culleoka, Cody Bolton of Columbia; two great-grandchildren: Alyssa Potts and Hayden Bolton. He was also survived by three brother-in-laws: Gwyn Thurman, Ted Houston both of Columbia and Walker Huey of Nashville; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jolene Thurman.

Pallbearers will be Jason Hill, Troy Hood, James Myers, Landon White, Cody Goodman, Cory Hood, Cameron Hanvy, and Archie Steen.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Gwyn Thurman, Earl Johnson, Walker Huey, Ted Houston, Theron Hood, Wayne and Brenda Anglin, Jim and Sandra Taylor, Rip and Kay Baxter, James and Barbara Kelley, Jane Collins, Jimmy Woodall, Eddie Woodall, past employees of Columbia Construction Company, Freddie and Willie Mae Goodman, L.G. and Edith White, Michael and Patricia Beard, and Billy and Belinda Beard.

The family asks that memorials be sent to the American Heart Association: 1818 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
