Fred Smith

January 5, 1947 - December 23, 2012

Mr. Fred Smith age 65, husband of Edith Smith, and a resident of Creek Trail in Columbia passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Curtis Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Navy. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4 – 8 PM at Heritage Funeral Home and again two hours prior to the service on Thursday. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements.

Fred was born on January 5, 1947 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Freddie Smith, Sr. and the late Lucille Smith Rist. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was retired from AT&T and later retired from the assembly line at General Motors. Fred loved all sports, but he especially loved basketball. He also enjoyed fishing as well as bowling.

In addition to his wife of thirty-nine years, he is survived by two daughters: Susan Smith, Rose Anne “Jun” Fabro; step-daughter: Marissa Almonte; step-son: Reynaldo Almonte; two brothers: Don Bagley, Curtis Smith; sister: Ann Shields; four grandchildren: Alyson Cummings, Jessica Cummings, Eryn Fabro, JR Almonte; and three great-grandchildren: Amelia, Alivia, and Emily Cummings.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
