Mr. W. Cecil Johns, age 88, and a resident of Windermere Drive in Columbia, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his residence.
Memorial services will be Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Dr. Carl Duck and Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Private graveside services will be held in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements.
A native of Maury County, Cecil was born on July 3, 1924 and was the son of the late Commodore and Maude Lynn Johns. He served our country in the United States Army as a sergeant and served on Okinawa during WWII. He was the owner and operator of Cecil Johns Construction Company and was a member of West End Baptist Church.
Cecil is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Stratton Johns of Columbia; son, Cecil Douglas (Yvette) Johns of Columbia; sister, Rubye Jean Johns of Columbia; granddaughter, Alex Johns; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hickman Johns; brothers: Lennie and Hubert Johns; and sister, Gladys Johns Willis.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Wise, Virgil H. Moore, Jr., Chuck Weiger, Jim Borum, Shelby Carpenter, Bookey Brymer, Earl Skogman, Curtis Anderson, and the Senior Men’s Class of West End Baptist Church.
