Jack V. Springer

March 17, 1929 - March 29, 2013

Jack VanBuren Springer passed peacefully from this life to the next on Friday, March 29, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee.  He was 84.

Jack was born in Ashland, Kentucky on March 17, 1929 to Albert and Elsie Springer.  After graduating from high school in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served on the U.S.S. Missouri.  Following his time in the service, Jack attended Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration in 1953.

Jack married Breme L. Holschuh on June 21, 1952, with whom he spent 60 years full of love and adventure.

In 1952, Jack began a 35 year career with Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a human resources specialist.  His time with Westinghouse took him to five states.  Jack retired from Westinghouse in 1987, and he and Breme moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.  During their 14 years there, they spent many fun-filled days teaching their 13 grandchildren how to water ski, fish, golf and play their favorite card games.

In 2001, Jack and Breme moved back to Norman, Oklahoma, where Jack volunteered at Norman Regional Hospital and was active in the South Canadian Amateur Radio Society and University Lutheran Church.  Although his first allegiance was to his alma mater, he became an avid OU sports fan, particularly womens basketball and softball.  Jack also was a master wood-worker and spent many hours in his shop creating beautiful furniture.  Jack and Breme moved to Nashville, Tennessee in May, 2012.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie Springer, brother Walter Springer, sister Betty Wessell and great-grandson Denton Brown.  He is survived by his wife, Breme; children Linda (Jack) Kidwell, Mark (Susan) Springer, Karen (Andy) Rieger, Bruce (Virginia) Springer, Scott (Leila) Springer; sisters Aileen Morton and June (Bill) Cowan; grandchildren Christy (Daniel) Brown, Matthew (Bailey) Rogers, Sarah Rogers, Alison (Michael) Finch, Lindsey Springer, Jason Springer, Patrick (Bonnie) Rieger, Lauren (Caleb) Gray, Hannah Rieger, Elizabeth (Tim) Kight, Ben (Johnna) Springer, Jackson Springer and Nell Springer; great-grandchildren, Avery and Addie Brown and Cameron and Channing Finch; and many neices and nephews.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 908 Murfreesboro Rd, Franklin, TN 37064. The family will gather to visit with friends one hour prior to the service.  Memorial donations may be made to University Lutheran Church, 914 Elm Ave., Norman, Oklahoma 73072 or your favorite charity. Heritage Funeral Home- Franklin is assisting the family and in charge of arrangements.
