Mr. John Ellis Sparks, age 78 passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at his residence in Hohenwald, with family at his side.
He was born May 11, 1935 in Shelby County to the late John and Thelma Starks Sparks. He was married to the love of his life for 55 years: Margaret Sparks, who preceded him in death on May 7 of this year. SSGT John Sparks retired from the United States Air Force with over 20 years of service. He then retired from FMC and Lee Jeans in Jackson, TN. Following that, he worked at the Genesco plant in Hohenwald, as a forklift operator, until the plant closed. He loved word-working and built beautiful furniture, barns, and remodeled homes. His talent and abilities will be missed.
He is survived by two daughters: Martha Baker of Hohenwald and Mary Alice Sparks Fletcher of West Tennessee; a sister: Mildred Russell of West Tennessee; three grandchildren: John, Michelle and Lacy; and three great grandchildren: Raygan, Skyler, and Jennifer. In addition to his wife Margaret, he was preceded in death by a son: Carl Ray Sparks; and a grandson: Chance Allen.
Private family services will be conducted at a later date to honor the life of Mr. Sparks. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
