Mr. Mahlon R. Peden, age 94, a resident of St. Johns Way in Columbia passed away Monday morning, June 17, 2013 at his residence.

Family and friends will gather at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM for graveside services and burial. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 18 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peden was born September 8, 1918, and was the son of Ben and Blanche Smith Peden. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific at New Guinea and the Philippines. Master Sergeant Peden served with the 1913th Engineers. Following his service he was an equipment operator with International Minerals and Chemical Corp, M. C. West Inc., and retired from Denbo Scrap Materials.

He is survived by two sons: L. Bruce (Linda) Peden of Columbia and Stephen L. (Lois) Peden of Spring Hill; a sister: Betty (John) Francis of Franklin; 3 grandchildren: Brad Peden, Brooke Kalb, and John Mahlon Peden; and 6 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Doris Francis Peden in 1996; and four siblings: May Stanford, Peggy Griffin, William Peden and James Peden.
