Mr. Elbert Blackwood, Jr., age 73, husband of Mary Ann Blackwood and a resident of Stevens Road in Chapel Hill, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Charlie Norman and Tommy Hemphill officiating. Burial will follow in Temple Cemetery in Marshall County. The family will visit with friends on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 4-8 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family and is in charge of all arrangements.

Born in Georgia on August 2, 1939, Elbert was the son of the late Isaac Elbert and Bessie May Reeder Blackwood, Sr. He worked as an EMT at the Nashville Fire Department. He enjoyed woodwork and also liked to travel and camp in his motor home.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons: Craig (Betty) Blackwood of Chapel Hill, Mark (Tammy) Blackwood of Columbia; brother: Charles “Friday” (Sherri) Blackwood of Madison; sister: Sarah Courtney of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughter: Tiffany (Paul) Tate of Huntland, TN; and great-grandchildren: P.J. and Ben Tate.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Edward Cunningham and sister: Lorene Hendricks.

Elbert’s friends and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be all emergency services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society: P.O. Box 1864 Columbia, TN 38402.
