James Scott Weldon age 82 died August 14, 2013, at home after an extended struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born October 21, 1930, in Conde, South Dakota, to parents Freda Barker Weldon and Glen Thomas Weldon and grew up in Webster City, Iowa.
Jim attended Iowa State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduation, Jim served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force. He married Lois Elaine Greenfield, his high school sweetheart, in 1951.
He went on to work for Northwestern Bell telephone company for 30 years. Jim was an active volunteer, serving on various boards while living in Omaha, NE. A lifelong golfer, Jim served as President of Happy Hollow Club in Omaha. He was a 60 year member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge, No. 176, in Webster City, Iowa. He was a natural athlete and loved playing and watching sports. He and Lois moved to Franklin, TN, in 2000.
Jim read three to five newspapers daily and could converse on numerous topics. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, especially bridge with Lois as his partner. He and Lois both enjoyed travel throughout their 62 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by his wife Lois; three daughters, Susan Rumble (Bob); Elaine O’Brien (Jeff); Anne Schafer; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; his sister Beth Neff of Iowa Falls, IA, and her family.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care from the Home Instead Senior Care caregivers. They made an incredibly positive difference in the last days of his life.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, 101 Legends Club Lane, Franklin, TN 37069, (615) 794-5114. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
