Linda Jean Hampton, age 46, a resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Signature Health Care in Columbia.

Linda had a passion for life. She expressed that love through her babies and grandbabies, loving them with all her strength. Her tireless sense of humor carried her through life and was balanced with her sweet, pure heart. Her strong will gave her the strength to fight her illness and keep the brave, positive mindset to the end of her journey.

Linda entered this life in Columbia on February 6, 1967. She was the daughter of the late Charles Mayes and the late Madge Lee Trigg Hampton. She was a member of the New Hope Primative Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Though her journey took her on paths that were not always smooth, Linda returned to her roots and family, finding peace and comfort in their presence. She enjoyed watching television, especially "The Young and the Restless" and "The Price is Right." She loved to cook for her family and share time together with them, especially enjoying her turnip greens.

She fully planned to return home from this illness, stating there were just 21 steps to her apartment. Her journey of 46 years began in Mt. Pleasant, and ended there as her 21 steps led her into the arms of her Savior in eternity. She will be missed and cherished by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters: Ashley Williams of Columbia, TN, Brittney Frierson of Columbus, MS, Demetria Frierson of Mt. Pleasant, TN; three siblings: LD (Patricia) Hampton, Jr. of Columbia, TN, Fay Hampton of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Lynn (Jeff) Cathey of Columbia, TN; four granddaughters: Nickenya, Ma'Kenzie, Nevaeh, and Alyijah; loving aunt: Eddie Mae Lipscomb; devoted uncle: Wayne T Mayes; devoted and loving nieces: Korey Cathey, Keona Watkins; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and devoted friend: Jackie Webster.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Allen "Jimmy" Hampton.

Our mother is a woman like no other. She gave us life, nurtured us, taught us, dressed us, fought for us, held us, shouted at us, kissed us, but most importantly loved us unconditionally. There are not enough words we can say to describe just how important our mother was to us and what a powerful influence she continues to be... Mother, we love you. -Your loving daughters, Ashley, Brittney, and Demetria
