Helen Mae Bennett, age 90, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Jerry Elder officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Bennett was born February 10, 1923 in Muhlenberg County, KY and was the daughter of Carlos and Goldie Felty Humphrey. She married Rev. Joseph E. Bennett in December of 1944, whom was a Methodist Minister for 49 years. She was a homemaker and member of Craft United Methodist Church. During WWII, Helen was a “Rosie the Riveter” at Hoosier Cardinal Airplane Factory, supporting the war effort through her employment. In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed working puzzles.

She is survived by her son: Joe Bennett and daughter: Marlene Petty, both of Columbia; a brother: Clayton (June) Humphrey of Sacramento, KY; two grandchildren: Khristina (Scotty) James and Phillip (Michelle) Petty; 5 great-grandchildren: Kayla Woody, Chelsey (John) Shepard, Clay Woody, Brittany James, and Cody Petty; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rev. Joseph E. Bennett; a brother: Houston Humphrey; and a sister: Joyce Breitenstein.
