Mr. Donald Davis, age 62, husband of Sheila Kay Derryberry Davis, and a resident of Old Williamsport Pike in Columbia, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with William Bundrant officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Sunday, November 24 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born in Shelbyville, TN on June 29, 1951, Donald was the son of the Jesse Lee Davis and Mary Christine Ivey Potts. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being decorated with a Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars for his services. Most recently Donald was employed with Superior Essex in Franklin as a Magnet Wire Operator, but had worked with Monsanto as a tapper, and GE as a lineman.
Never meeting a stranger, Donald was always willing to help others. He enjoyed being around people and taking any opportunity to pick at a friend or family member. His positive attitude and humor made him a joy to be around. He loved his Harley and having the time to ride, but most of all cherished the moments spent with his family. Such simple words are used to describe him – “an awesome dad and Paw Paw.”
In addition to his wife of 42 years: Sheila; he is survived by two sons: Johnny Eugene Davis of Columbia and Donald Wayne & Sybil Davis of Culleoka; brother: John E. “Johnny” Davis of Duck River; brother-in-law: Johnny D. Patterson, Sr. of Columbia; and three precious grandchildren: Brianna Kay Davis, John Carter Davis, and Chance Wayne Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse Lee Davis and Mary Christine Potts; and a sister: Connie D. Patterson.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ivey, David Inch, Billy Ray Huckaby, J. P. Patterson, Christopher Davis, and Randy Brady.
