George Edward Moore, Jr., age 83, and a resident of Rock Springs Road in Columbia, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, December 5 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
George was born October 18, 1930 in Livingston, New Jersey, and was the son of the late George Edward Moore, Sr. and Gladys Irene Hughes Moore. He worked for scale companies in New Jersey, including Fairbanks-Morse Weighing Systems, a division of Colt Industries. He was the number one salesman for four consecutive years in the eastern division. While he was there he also was an instructor for the basic sales school. After leaving Fairbanks, he worked for Conceptual Systems Corporation in Nashville. He left there to build his own home and then to start his own company: Columbia Electronic Weighing. He was an avid boater, spending weekends deep sea fishing in the Atlantic Ocean off the Jersey Shore. He also enjoyed skin diving, and served as President of the New Gretna Skin Divers Club. After moving to Nashville, he spent more free time with sailboats and took pride in making two solo trips down the Tennessee/Tombigbee/Black Warrior Water Way to Mobile Bay and Fairhope, AL.
Along with his loving wife of 31years Kathy "Kitty" Moore, he is survived by his children: Carl Lee (Karen) Moore of McClellenville, SC, Bonnie Ann (Kinney) Kayser of Agusta, NJ, Karen Moore (Sharon Moody) of Seattle, WA, and stepdaughter Susan Lee Stiddum of Nashville, TN; grandchildren: N. Aubry Moore and Lee Moore, both of McClellenville, SC, Casey Kayser of Agusta, NJ.
Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by his beloved Aunt and Uncle, Henrietta and George Sossin.
