Margaret Stokes Pigg, of the Stiversville Community, joined her husband in death on what would have been their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary on December 18, 2013. Mrs. Pigg was born in Maury County on January 4, 1935. She grew up in the Culleoka, Campbell Station, and Tanyard Hollow communities. After graduating from Culleoka High School in 1953, Mrs. Pigg worked as a telephone operator until moving to a farm in the Stiversville Community.
“Miss” Margaret, as she was generally known, was a talented seamstress. She was especially proud of her skills in tailoring and making lingerie. She made clothes for her husband, children, other family members, and friends as well.
“Miss” Margaret’s passion was couponing. She was in a coupon club that met and exchanged coupons and rebate forms. She enjoyed stretching her dollars and having an excess of groceries and household supplies to share with family and friends. When she heard of someone in need, she immediately started filling boxes and bags from her supply stash. Her grandsons fondly remember how she gave them so much laundry detergent when they moved into their first apartments that they didn’t have to buy any for years.
“Miss” Margaret was also known as an excellent cook. Friends and family members often timed their visits for mealtime, knowing they would be welcome. Nobody ever left her house hungry. For this reason, the family wishes for those who would like to honor the memory of her generosity to donate to Harvest Share Food Pantry, 419 West 9th Street, Columbia, Tennessee, (931) 381-4285, www.harvestshare.com
“Miss” Margaret’s pride and joy in life were the grandsons who survive her, Jared Martin and Stephen Martin. A surviving step-grandson, Cody Trull, came into her life as a teenager. She enjoyed conversations with him over pie.
“Miss” Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Pigg, Sr., her parents, O.M. (Bill) Stokes, Sr. and Grace Pogue Stokes, and her younger brother, Don Stokes. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Martin (Dwayne); son, Floyd Pigg, Jr. (Tammy); brothers, Bobby Stokes (Debbie) and Billy Stokes (Melanie); sisters, Glenda Potts (Dallas) and Nelda Bone (Ray); her Pigg in-laws, beloved nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ed Smith and Linda Almanza, the Mark Haynes family, and Phillip Brasfield.
It was “Miss” Margaret’s wish that there be no service or visitation at the funeral home upon her death. Her remains are to be cremated as she desired with a private gathering of family and friends upon completion of plans.
Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
