Sewell A. “Pee Wee” Staggs, age 87, a resident of Columbia, TN passed away Monday morning, December 23, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27th at 2pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Swango and Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, December 26th from 4-7pm, and again one hour prior to the service on Friday at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pee Wee was born November 26, 1926 in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Charley and Blanche Ashmore Staggs. He spent his life as a carpenter working for Bell Construction. He was an avid camper and loved dogs. Most of all, he was a man that never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking to people, and never having a dull moment because he liked to “cut-up,” being quite the character. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. Pee Wee was a devoted husband, loving dad, and a wonderful granddad. He will be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife: Juanita Haney Staggs; daughter: Stephanie Baker of Columbia, TN; sons: Gene (Angie) Staggs of TX, Danny (Lisa) Staggs of TX, Terry (Sunshine) Staggs of Waco, TN, Jerry Staggs of TX; step-sons: Jimmy Goolsby and Charles (Mary Alice) Goolsby; step-daughters: Sherry Kincaid, Janie (Larry) Billington, Susie (Dwayne) Brewer, and Debbie Oden; two devoted grandchildren: Dareain and Zachary Baker; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a host of great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Terry Wayne Staggs; sister: Katherine Whitwell; brothers: Nobel Staggs and Britton Staggs.


Pallbearers will be Brian Brewer, Jason Brewer, Richard Goolsby, Zachary Baker, Shannon Helton, and Herbert Fitzgerald.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men and women of First Freewill Baptist Church, and Dr. Gaylon Harris at Core Physicians.
