Mary Elizabeth Douglas Wade, age 94, resident of Spring Hill, passed away Saturday August 4th at NHC Columbia.
Born August 25, 1923 in Maury County, daughter of the late George and Viola Jenkins Douglas and the wife of the late Percy Wade. She was a self-employed beautician and the oldest member of Newtown Church of Christ. She gave her life to Christ under worldwide Evangelist and President of Nashville Christian Institute Marshall Keeble during a tent revival in 1952. She loved to go shopping and if any one asked her, she would say “let me get my pocket book.” She always dressed her best as if she was going to church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wade will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, August 10th at Newtown Church of Christ at 2615 Duplex Road in Spring Hill with Lazarus Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday at the church. Pallbearers will be the men of New Town Church of Christ. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
She is survived by her sons: Milton (Linda Fleming) Prowell of Columbia and Richard E. (Gwen) Prowell of Nashville; brother: St. Clair (Janice) Lockridge of Columbia; grandchildren: Comedra and Libby Prowell; great grandchildren: Channail, Cheyenne and Sierra Prowell; and 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons: Alonzo and Profeto Prowell; brother: James Petway.
