Arthur H. Slaughter

January 23, 1939 - August 2, 2018

Mr. Arthur H. Slaughter, age 79, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 5th at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Joey Potts and Keith Baker officiating.  Burial will follow in Fly Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 4-8PM at the funeral home.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Arthur was born in Portland, TN and was the son of the late Samuel Arthur Slaughter and late Minnie Brooks Slaughter.  He married Rebecca Reese Slaughter, whom preceded him in death in 2013.  They were married for 43 years and he loved her dearly.  He enjoyed gardening and talking about Jesus.  He also loved filling in for ministers when they needed someone to preach for them.  He served with the civil defense and volunteered with the Maury County Fire Dept. for 42 years.  He retired from the Maury County Board of Education after 28 years as a bus driver, which he treasured doing.  He adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and he always had a large double bubble jar full of candy for any children that came to his home.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter: Nancy Lumpkins of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Stephanie Jones, Jessica Jones, Emily Lumpkins, and J.T. Slaughter; and great grandchildren: Alayna Thompson, Jay Thompson, Addison Grimes, Brayden Lumpkins, Josiah Armstrong, Carson Lumpkins, and Lilyaunah Lumpkins.

Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son: Arthur Slaughter, Jr.; brothers: Thomas Adkison and John Slaughter; sister: Lila Cook; and grandson: Brandon Slaughter.

Pallbearers will be David Slaughter, Roy Slaughter, Brandon Slaughter, Dean Adkison, Clyde Lumpkins, and Brian Vargas.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Volunteer Fire Department of Maury County.
