Mildred A. Wantland, age 98, a resident of Lenoir City, previously of Columbia, passed away Monday morning, July 9, 2018 at Summit View of Farragut in Knoxville.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Thursday from 12-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 22, 1920 in Haynesville, Alabama, Mildred was the daughter of the late William Robert Atchison and the late Lela Moseley Atchison. She was a graduate of Haynesville High School in Alabama and previously worked as a design representative at Sherwin Williams. Mildred was a member of First Family Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons: Ronald (Linda) Wantland of Knoxville, Thomas (Pat) Wantland of Knoxville; grandchildren: David Wantland, Kristen W. (Jeff) McGaha, Ashlee W. (Todd) Thomson; and great grandchildren: Troy McGaha, Gabriel McGaha, and Emma Thomson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Hugh Smith “Buddy” Wantland; grandson: Brandon Smith Wantland; brothers: Willie Atchison, Robert Atchison; and sisters: Maude Grumbles and Lela Atchison.
Pallbearers will be: David Wantland, Jeff McGaha, Newt Wantland, Sam Wantland, Bob Atchison, Mike Prince, Chris Veler, and Stephen Thomason.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the First Family Baptist Church Building Fund: 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
