Major (RET) Richard “Dick” Charles Cohan, age 91, husband of Shirley Cohan, and a resident of Franklin, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Franklin First United Methodist Church with Rev. Anita Pringle officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. A visitation will also be held on June 24, 2018 from 2-3PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on September 24, 1926 in Savannah, Georgia, Dick was the son of the late Walter Herman Cohan and the late Lois Munns Cohan. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War before retiring in 1986. He was a Physics teacher for over thirty years at Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, GA. Dick married Shirley on June 7, 1958. He was an Atlanta Braves Baseball fan and an avid Civil War buff. He enjoyed reading and collecting distinctive insignias.

In addition to his wife, Shirley of 60 years, he is survived by his son: Timothy Charles (Vera) Cohan of Atlanta, GA; daughter: Jamie Elizabeth Cohan of Augusta, GA; “adopted daughter” Anita Holland Pringle of Spring Hill; sister: Dorothy Evelyn Cohan of Spring Hill; grandchildren: Britney Cohan (Randy) Furstenberg, Richard Dominic Cohan; and great grandchild: Tripp Wesley Furstenberg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Franklin First United Methodist Church: 120 Aldersgate Way, Franklin, TN 37069 or GraceWorks Ministries: 104 Southeast Parkway, Franklin, TN 37064.
