Ms. April Renee (Browne) Frierson was born November 12, 1967 in Akron, OH to Eyvonne Carrie Browne and David Dortch, both who preceded her in death. April was the middle child of three siblings: one sister, Angela Diane and one brother, Darron Joseph who preceded her in death. However, April, Darron and Angela were reared with their seven god brothers and sisters as true brother and sisters.
April obeyed the gospel of Christ and was baptized by Cecil Bullock at the Russell Wood Church of Christ in Detroit Michigan. At the time of her passing, April was a faithful member of the Central Church of Christ in Columbia Tennessee.
April was educated through both the Ohio and Michigan public school system. She played basketball for the Finney High School basketball team in Detroit, MI. She was a member of the girl scouts and participated in the Detroit Police Explorer’s Club. April attended Delta College in University Center, MI and Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN. April worked at Cradles to Crayons daycare as a Child Care Provider until she became ill.
As a child, she was rambunctious, energetic, and fun-loving. April could take a licking and keep on ticking. April was always an active church member. She loved planning and attending church events and giving praises to the Lord. April loved basketball. Her favorite team was the University of Michigan Wolverines. She loved the “Maize and Blue”. She loved coaching basketball and was an expert in the game.
April was the proud mother of three children, Miracle Angelique, Thomas Ray (Toby), and India Nicole. April had a profound love for her children. April volunteered and was an active participant in her children’s activities, she cheered them on and supported their endeavors. God allow her to experience the joy of being a grandmother when her precious A’laia Railyn, who she called her little “Sugar-Buger”, was born. April was ecstatic over A’laia, who brought her so much comfort and happiness while she was sick.
April Frierson departed this life on Monday, May 28, 2018 with her god-sister Melanie Smith- Whittaker (NeNe) at her side.
April Frierson leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Miracle Angelique Frierson and India Nicole Frierson, and her son Thomas Ray (Toby) Frierson II, and her granddaughter A’laia Railyn Frierson. April also leaves her sister Angela Foster (Anthony), god brothers and sisters, George Lee (Terry), Tony Johnson, Genesa Morales (Shelly), Martilyn Billingsley (Marti), Wilson Smith (Jay), Cameron Smith (Cam) and Melanie Smith- Whittaker (NeNe), special brother and sister Carleton and Juanita Lett, nephew Kevin Lett (Brita), niece Ayana Lett and great-nephew Christian Reynolds.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon and funeral service to follow at the Heritage Funeral Home, Columbia, Tennessee with Bro. Harvey Jackson of Cleveland, Mississippi as the eulogist. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for April during her illness.
