Harlin Casteel Jr., age 75, resident of Columbia, passed away May 26 at Maury Regional Medical Center due to a motorcycle accident.
Born April 17, 1943 in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Harlin Casteel Sr. and Johnella Parker Casteel and husband of the late Mary Jean Owens Casteel. He worked as an electrical technician for Union Carbide and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. He served as a tank commander in the US Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed racing and anything that went fast, especially his red 2014 Corvette. He loved his children and grandchildren with whom he had many visits and face time calls. He loved his church and the children of the church who referred to him as Papa.
Funeral services for Mr. Casteel will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 2 at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with Dr. Henry Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the Maury Memorial Gardens adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 5:oo to 8:00 PM at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with their services.
He is survived by his daughter: Karen Cheriece (Andrew) Riley of Bedford, IN; grandchildren: Harlin Casteel Riley and Ava Marie Cheriece Riley: sisters: Zady Rose of Pulaski and Doris Scott of Columbia. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Virginia Pitt and Wanda Jones and a brother: Chester William “CW” Casteel.
Pallbearers will be David Parker, David Parker Jr., Rickey Turner, Daniel VunCannon, Donald Francis, Ray Rose and Kevin Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ.
