William Donald Stafford

July 26, 1932 - May 10, 2018

Mr. William Donald Stafford, age 85, a resident of Chapel Hill, passed away Thursday evening, May 10, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5-7PM at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 26, 1932 in London, England, William was the son of the late John William Stafford and the late Florence Rose Slade Stafford. He served in the Royal Air Force in England during the Korean War, and while in England he often enjoyed racing motorcycles. He married Maureen Waring on May 23, 1953 and together they spent sixty-one wonderful years together. Maureen preceded him in death on October 25, 2014. William was a master tool and die maker and previously worked as a general manager for tool and die shops. One of his hobbies included cabinet making, and at approximately the age of seventy, William became a volunteer fireman and first responder.

He is survived by his sons: Wayne Donald (Jennifer) Stafford of Chapel Hill, Brian Donald (Kim) Stafford of South Lyon, Michigan; brother: Alan John (Kathy) Stafford of England; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way.
