Mr. Mike Mayberry Andrews, Jr. age 91, a resident of Park Drive in Columbia, passed away Friday evening, April 27, 2018 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Joe Macer, Rick Points, and Enoch George officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 12-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
A native of Maury County, Mike was born on April 3, 1927 and was the son of the late Mike M. Andrews, Sr. and the late Bevie D. Mitchell Andrews. He was a long time member of East Side Church of Christ which later changed its name to South Gate Church of Christ. There he served alongside his wife, Wanda, as a custodian. He loved attending church and often worked the sound booth. He served as a deacon and a song leader and recorded all of the sermons.
Mike worked for the TVA for twenty-seven years before retiring. He later worked as a Maury County School bus driver where he not only loved picking up the children every day for school but also loved driving the students to ballgames. Mike was a sexton for Rose Hill Cemetery for seventeen years. He was last employed at Williams Funeral Home for sixteen years. Mike was first married to Betty Jean Goldman Andrews for forty years; she preceded him in death on September 4, 1985. He later married Wanda Davis Attkisson on June 13, 1987, and they have spent 30 wonderful years together.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Linda Baker of Culleoka; son: James M. Andrews of Columbia; daughter: Tanya (Greg) Watson of Athens, AL; sister-in-law: Billie Andrews of Columbia; grandchildren: Rhonda (David) Littleton, Jonathan (Jamie) Baker, Kim Andrews, Emily Atwater, Major James M. (Sara) Andrews, Jr., Jason (C.J.) Andrews, Sara Beth (Tyler) Borne, Garrett Watson; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
Along with his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his son: Lester Andrews; son-in-law: Larry Baker; brothers: Roy Andrews, Lester Clyde Andrews; and sister: Sara Frances Whitaker.
Pallbearers will be: Frank Thomas, Ronald Sparkman, Enoch George, Donnie Davis, Danny Cole, Ray Rummage, Jimmy Rowland, and Kevin Mick. Honorary pallbearers will include: Dr. Thomas Dake, Frances Dickson, Dr. Tim & Maribeth Gordon, Dr. John & Kris Maloof, Dr. Wade & Jeanine Denny, Dr. Jim Marshall, Michelle Jarrett, Trisha Barnes, Dr. Paul Thomas, the Ladies Bible Class of South Gate Church of Christ, Sharon Cole, and the employees of Hospice Compassus.
