A beloved soul was called home, William “Bookie” Henry Himes, age 75, passed away in Culleoka on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery in Hampshire. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on October 6, 1942 in Hampshire, Tennessee to Webb Hill Himes and Mattie Virginia Runions Himes, Bookie attended Hampshire Unit School when his father made him. Thus, how he received his name “Bookie.” His father Webb Himes worked as a sharecropper for a local farmer. As soon as Bookie was sent to school with the rest of the children he “booked” right back to his father’s side on the farm. His father would say, “There’s that boy of mine booking across the pasture.” Even at a very young age of seven and eight he was working side by side doing man’s work with his father. He made farming his life. He also worked with the forestry division, clearing trees for local road work and fire towers in the Maury and Lewis County areas.

Bookie was incredible with cars as an accomplished mechanic prior to the tech cars of today. He accomplished many things in life without knowing the written word. He believed his word was his bond. He had an amazing memory. Bookie could tear down a car motor and fix it without direction. Bookie was a kind soul that would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. He believed in, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:31
