Anthony "Snake" Woods

October 26, 1957 - February 26, 2018

Anthony Dwight “Snake” Woods, age 60, of Columbia, passed away Monday, February 26th at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to the funeral home. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM and again on Thursday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A native of Maury County, Snake was born on October 26, 1957 and was the son of Shirley Blocker Woods and the late James Farrell Woods. He enjoyed volunteering for different organizations including the Columbia Police Department and the Maury County Civil Defense. He loved doing anything to help others and recently helped build the Fallen Heroes Shelter. Snake loved sports especially Nascar and was an avid UT Vols fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and most recently enjoyed playing softball. He also liked being outdoors whether that was fishing, going for a walk, or catching a snake.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brothers: Jimmy Woods of Lewisburg, Tracy Blocker of Columbia; sisters: Melody Sharpe of Columbia, Stacy (Ronnie) Roland of Columbia, Renee (Tony) Stanfill of Columbia, Sheryl (David) Upchurch of Culleoka; beloved dogs: Buddy & Molly; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Hattie & Ottis Blocker and Willie & Lexie Woods.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Jones, Kyle Upchurch, Cameron Harrington, Alex Harrington, Robin Howell, Calvin Howell, Steve Jones, and Blake Hight. Honorary pallbearers will include: his nephews and members of the Columbia Police Department.
