Bertha Thomasina Gary, age 79, a resident of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 11AM at New Life Church with Pastor Darryl Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity at Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 10-11AM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Thomasina was born on June 28, 1938 in Thomson, Georgia and was a graduate of Marshall Metropolitan High School in Chicago, IL. She married Albert Gary, Sr. on April 21, 1956; he preceded her in death on July 15, 2015. Thomasina was a professional hair dresser for many years at Queens Beauty Shop in Chicago, IL until she retired. She accepted Christ at an early age and enjoyed spreading the word of the Lord as an Evangelist. She was most recently a member of New Life Church in Columbia. Thomasina was a prayer warrior who loved the Lord and could quote many scriptures. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who loved helping others and was an excellent cook.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Sharon Elaine Battle of Chicago, IL, Patricia Lynn Smith of Chicago, IL, Albert (Dawn) Gary, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Alan (Teresa) Gary of Columbia, Sybil Gary of Mt. Pleasant, Alfred (Connie) Gary of Chicago, IL; brothers: Ronald H. Brady of Chicago, IL, Owen Brady of Chicago, IL, Wendell Brady of Birmingham, AL; sister: Delores (Paul, Sr.) Lang of Chicago, IL; cousins: Ella Edmonson of Detroit, MI, Kathy Sybul Hinton of Detroit, MI, Carmen (William) Dixon of New York; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother: Catherine Kate Holliman, and son-in-law: Ronnie Lee Smith.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Kyle Gary, Albert Battle, Aaron Gary, Laron Smith, and Michael Battle. Honorary pallbearers will include her great grandsons: Lezerick Gunn and Jaquil Colbert and her great great grandson: Roy Williams.
