Melissa Jean Gordon

Melissa Jean Gordon, age 39, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 15th at 2:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Swango officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens, located adjacent to the funeral home. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 18, 1978 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Melissa was the daughter of James R. “Ronnie” Gordon and Kathryn Jean Reese. She was a loving mother who enjoyed making arts and crafts with her children. She loved singing and was a good cook. Melissa had a great sense of humor. She was outgoing and friendly and could always make you laugh.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband: Gerry Banks; children: Demarea Sloan of Culleoka, Rebekah Lawrence of Columbia, Mykal Lawrence of Columbia; brothers: Daniel (Tiffany) Gordon of San Antonio, TX, Thomas (Hillary) Gordon of Gulf Breeze, FL; maternal grandmother: Gwen Reese Anderson; and aunt: Christine Reese.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: James & Rachel Gordon; maternal grandfather: Bob Reese; and aunt: Laurie Leitsch.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
