Katie Hill Eastep

Katie Mae Hill Eastep, age 75, a resident of Southgate, Michigan, previously of the Santa Fe Community, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Riverview, Michigan.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Keith Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltown Church of Christ Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on December 18, 1941 in the Santa Fe community, Katie was the daughter of the late James Francis Hill and the late Mary Wilson Hill. She attended Santa Fe School and on March 26, 1960 she and Clifford Eastep eloped in Alabama. She worked at Maury Regional Hospital for about seven years as a nurse’s aid before moving to Michigan in 1968. She then worked in housekeeping for seventeen years at Wyandotte Hospital in Michigan. Katie was a member of Riverview Church of Christ in Michigan for forty two years. She partnered with a lady at the church and together they provided food, clothing, and other necessities to those in need. Katie also enjoyed garage sales and reading the Tabloids.

She is survived by her husband: Clifford Eastep; children: Cynthia (John) Bates, Ray (Debbie) Eastep, Mark Eastep; siblings: Carolyn Hill-Baucom, John G. (Marcella) Hill; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Mary Frances South, Emma Jean Ragsdale, Jenny Lee Williams, Clara Griggs; and brother: James “Jim” Hill.

Katie’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
