Mrs. Norma Carolyn Ferguson Dawson, age 81, former resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Creekside at Three Rivers Assisted Living in Murfreesboro.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 1PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on January 20, 1936 in Memphis, Norma was the daughter of the late William Arnold Ferguson and the late Sophie Marie Storz Ferguson. She was a 1954 graduate of Whitehaven High School in Memphis. Norma was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church and retired from FedEx as an administrative assistant in Memphis and as a service agent in Nashville. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her egg custard pie. Norma loved taking care of her family.

She is survived by her son: Mark (Carrie) Dawson of Phoenix, AZ; daughters: Sherry Dawson (John) Jolly of Murfreesboro, Dawn Rae Dawson Scribner of Columbia; son-in-law: Hank Alberts of Columbia; brother: Billy (Jeanne) Ferguson of Sugar Hill, GA; sister: Glenda White of Smyrna; grandchildren: Ryan (Heather) Jolly, Jessica Jolly, Matt Dawson, Whitney Dawson, Zachary Alberts, Wesley (Kristen) Alberts, Cody Alberts, Kyle (Kayla) Scribner; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Lisa Carol Dawson Alberts; and granddaughter: Stacy Dawn Scribner.

Norma’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include: the employees of FedEx and the Whitehaven High School Class of 1954.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Creekside at Three Rivers Assisted Living, Dr. Sara Owen and staff, Erin Holcombe Olsen, PA, Vicki Smith and Meagan Dahlke for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
