Betty Potts Hay, age 81, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Adkison Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM and again on Thursday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 10, 1936 in Columbia, Betty was the daughter of the late William Robert Dee Potts and the late Minnie Etta Beckenbach Potts. She was a 1954 graduate of Santa Fe School and a member of First Church of the Nazarene. She retired from Publix Manufacturing Company where she worked for 35 years in the Cutting and Design Departments. Betty enjoyed cooking and reading and was known for her coconut cakes she made for her special friends at Christmas. She loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons: Mickey (Vickie) Hay of Lewisburg, Kenny (Angela) Hay of Spring Hill; daughter: Dee Dee (Barry) Blackburn of Columbia; grandchildren: Stephen (Carrie) Hay of Nashville, Christopher (Amanda) Hay of Spring Hill, Jonathan (Julie) Hay of Thompsons Station, LeAnn Clark Street of Dickson, Courtney (Ray) Jeter of Columbia, Crystal Blackburn of Columbia, Heather (Darren) Pipe of England, Wayne Street of Columbia; great grandchildren: Gavin Street, Ellie James Hay, Annie Jane Hay, Brannon Jeter, Andrea Jeter, Hunter Smith, Gage Blackburn, Ethan Pipe, Eliza Pipe, Ebony Pipe; nephews: Randy, Tommy, John, and James Earl Potts; nieces: Wanda Kelley, Judy Collins, Cindy Crigger; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Clifton (Martha) Hay, Milton (Janice) Hay, Shirley (Eddie) Kelley, Martha Hay; and special friends: Frances Dickson, Linda Landers, and Jackie Robertson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: J.W. Hay on November 29, 2011; brothers: Bill Potts, Dick Potts, James Potts; sisters: Hattie Conner, Ethel Marie Potts, and Wilma Cheatham.
Pallbearers will be: Stephen Hay, Christopher Hay, Jonathan Hay, Wayne Street, Ryan Kelley, and Ronnie Sheeter. Honorary pallbearers will include: Chester Hutcherson, Wayne Harris, Wayne Haynes, Bill Gunnell, Wayne Patterson, Arch Patterson, Larry Fox, Larry Adkison, Marion Sewell, Travis Warf, Bill Landers, and the Santa Fe Class of 1954.
