Douglas Blalock

March 7, 1942 - August 21, 2017

Retired Army 1st Sargent Douglas C. Blalock, age 75, of Lewisburg, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 in Lewisburg.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 25th at 11AM at Heritage Funeral Home with full military honors provided by the United States Army.  The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10AM until the 11AM service.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Blalock was born March 7, 1942 in Columbia, Tennessee.  He graduated high school in 1960 from Spring Hill High School.  He retired from the U.S. Army in 1981 as a 1st Sargent with 22 years of military service, having served active duty.  He was awarded numerous awards and decorations during his long military career.  Some of those earned were Driver and Mechanic Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Since retirement, Blalock worked for the Maury County Sheriff’s Department and drove a tractor trailer truck for the United Postal Service.  He also worked as a farmer plowing fields, bailing hay, and raising hogs and cows.  He was a self employed diesel mechanic. Working on cars, or anything that had a motor, was always an interest.  If you did not find him under the hood of a car, best bet would be he was in the woods with a shotgun over his shoulder, in a deer stand, or on the water with a fishing pole in his hand.  To his family, he not only left behind a legacy built on integrity, but loyalty and love.

He is survived by his daughter: Tina Blalock, and her mother: Gay Blalock; sisters: Ellen Boshers, Helen Peters, Shirley Hedrick, Erma Blalock, and Pam Kulas Veilmetti; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Enoch Etheridge Blalock and Lucille Himes Blalock Jett and his adopted parents: John and Irene McMeen; brothers: Charles Blalock, Joe Blalock, and John Norman McMeen; sisters: Mary Stewart, Linda Joyce, and Gail Edwards.
