Patricia Louise Chism, age 75, a resident of Lookout Drive in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Thomas Midtown.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 5PM at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Chuck Westra officiating. A visitation will also be held on Saturday, August 19th from 3:30-5PM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 1, 1941 in Centralia, Illinois, Patricia was the daughter of the late Donald Smith and the late Erna Maurer Smith. In her 30s, she went back to school to finish her degree at Columbia State Community College, becoming a registered nurse. She worked 25 years at Williamson Medical Center and most recently worked as the school traffic guard at the E.A. Cox Middle School and Randolph Howell Elementary School intersection on Bear Creek Pike for five years. Patricia was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an excellent cook. She served as everyone’s mom, and all the neighborhood kids enjoyed coming to her house to visit. Patricia will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Kevin) Caraglio of Columbia, Melissa (Jeff) Best of Murfreesboro, Rebecca Byrd of Chapel Hill, Tom (Julie) Chism of Port Charlotte, FL, Sue (Richard) Cushion of Columbia; sisters: Janet Yardley of Wentworth, GA, Marianne (Dennis) Doetsch of Swansea, IL; brother: Greg (Carolyn) Queen of Centralia, IL; seventeen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Chism in July of 2011; and sisters: Judy Smith and Donna Aaron.
