Mr. Eric Pierre Jones, age 55, a resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday morning, July 1, 2017 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 1PM at Wayman Chapel AME Church with Rev. Victor Goodman officiating. Entombment will follow in the chapel mausoleum at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. His body will lie in state on Saturday from 11AM-1PM with a Masonic service beginning immediately after the visitation at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on March 20, 1962 in Shelby County, TN, Eric was the son of Patricia Shelton Matthews and the late Vernon Lee Jones. He was a member of Wayman Chapel AME Church and worked at General Motors. He owned several small businesses in Memphis, including White Collar Limousine and A- Inner City Bail Bonds . Eric was a Shriner in the Masonic Lodge Chelsea # 324 and the Moolah Shrine Temple # 53, both of Memphis. He was a car and truck enthusiast who enjoyed traveling. He loved being outdoors, especially on the lake, on a boat, or fishing. Eric was an entrepreneur who enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Margaret Angus Jones, whom he married on September 28, 2013; children: Jason Jones of Memphis, Christopher (Wakeyia) Angus of Columbia; brothers: Stanley Warren (Sharon) Jones of Memphis, Wendell Jones of Memphis, Jimmy Lawrence Peete of Memphis; sisters: Juana Kay (Gregory) Bacon of Memphis, Janice Shaw Brown of Eads, TN; grandchildren: Jayshun Buford, Timya Blue, C’onna Angus, Chrislyn Angus; mother-in-law: Ruby Angus of Columbia; brothers-in-law: Billy (Shirley) Jennings, Sharron (Darlene) Angus; sisters-in-law: Ellender Glenn, Teresa (Anthony) Davis, Valerie Logan; uncles: Ronald Jennings of Dale City, VA; aunts: Irene Rogers of Arlington, TN, Alberta Patterson of Arlington, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother: Randall Jones; and step father: Felton Elzy.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers, brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers, and nieces will serve as flower girls.
