Mavis Bowling

Mavis Bowling, age 80, a resident of Culleoka, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM and again on Thursday from 1-2PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 10, 1937 in Clintwood, VA, Mavis was the daughter of the late Theodore Brown and the late Myrtle Yates Brown. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed animals and loved gardening and cooking. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Michael Bowling of Culleoka, Carlton (Susan) Bowling of Zephyrhills, FL, Kimberly Bowling of Culleoka, Rhonda (Daniel) Whitacre of Lynnville; brothers: Quinton (June) Brown of Clintwood, VA, Eugene Brown of Clintwood, VA, Benny (Priscilla) Brown of Clintwood, VA, Harold (Linda) Brown of Plymouth, MI, Robert (Sandy) Brown of Clintwood, VA, Ronnie (Sondra) Brown of Clintwood, VA; sister: Arlene Long of Edmond, OK; grandchildren: Amanda (Josh) Thurston, Alicia (Cody) Slaughter, Chelsea (Ben) Strickland, Caitlyn Whitacre, Danielle Whitacre, Andrew Bowling, Dylan Bowling, Carly Bowling; great grandchildren: Joseph Thurston, Abram Thurston, Emmett Thurston, Ava Keith, Elijah Keith, Edison Slaughter, Amelia Slaughter, and Everly Strickland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Bowling; brothers: Johnny Brown, James Brown; and sister: Patricia Gardner.

Pallbearers will be: Josh Thurston, Cody Slaughter, Ben Strickland, Corey Ezra, John Gibbons, and Andrew Bowling.
