Mr. James Hargis Cox, age 64, a resident of Bear Creek Pike in Columbia, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center, after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11AM at St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Church in Franklin with Father Stephen Rogers. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7PM at Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia and again on Friday from 9:30AM – 11AM at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on January 24, 1953 in Richmond, KY, James was the son of Alma Jean Cox and the late James Hargis Cox, Sr. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY. He worked as a data support specialist for the Kentucky Department of Transportation for twenty-four years. James loved his faith and was a proud member of the St. Ignatius Antiochian Orthodox Church in Franklin, TN. His interests were genealogy, steam engines, fishing and playing bagpipes.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister: Joyce Carol (Marcen) Jeffiers of Columbia; son: Samuel David Cox of Lexington, KY; daughters: Laura Elizabeth Cox of Lexington, KY, Teresa Margaret (Caleb) Lee of Lexington, KY; grandchildren: Lola Delaney Cox of Berea, KY, Avery Joanna Lee, Silas Cobb Lee both of Lexington, KY; and his dog: U2.
