Gayle Rowland, 63, of Columbia, TN, formerly of Inkster, MI, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of May 14, 2017 at her daughter Stacy’s home in Spring Hill. She lost a long courageous struggle with Stage 3 COPD.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Terry Hampton officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM and again on Wednesday from 1-3PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born August 31, 1953 in Detroit, MI, her parents, Ercell and Joanna Jones Hampton had three children of which she is the middle. Her brother Terry (Sheila) Hampton of Madisonville, KY and sister Cindy (Bobby) Lang of Westland, MI, came down as soon as Gayle went into hospice. Gayle grew up in the Detroit area and then moved to Columbia with her then husband, Rick Harding, and children in 1991.
Gayle was a customer service manager at Food Lion in Columbia from 1992 until 2012. She brought a smile to the faces of many customers and friends alike. Many customers over the years became friends, and one customer, Carol Rowland, introduced Gayle to Roger Rowland who would eventually become her husband. Gayle was passionate about NASCAR, music (especially Motown and The Beatles), and most of all, her grandchildren. She loved the beach and enjoyed travelling to Outer Banks, North Carolina many times for family reunions with immediate and extended family.
Gayle is survived by her husband Roger Rowland of Columbia, her daughter, Stacy (Brad) Delaney and granddaughter, Katelynn of Spring Hill; her son Dale (Kathryn) Harding of Murfreesboro and grandson Caiden of Columbia; former daughter-in-law: Amanda Harding; step son Travis (Jessica) Rowland and grandson Jackson of Las Vegas, NV; step daughter Erin (James) Burgess and grandsons Austin, Landon, and Mason of Elizabeth City, NC. Family was everything to Gayle, and she had a special place in her heart for her nieces Teresa (Bill) Cunningham, Sherry (Jason) Rushing, Tami (Mike) Langenright, and Nikki (Dave) Lang, and her one nephew, Bryan (Erica) Hampton.
Honorary pallbearers will include: Mike Rowland, William Rowland, Billy Wiesenauer, Brad Delaney, Kane Henson, and Ryan McCord.
