William Hammond Fowler, age 72, resident of Columbia, TN,  passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 2:00 PM at First Family Church in Columbia, TN with Reverend David Simmerman officiating.  Interment will follow at Bonnertown Cemetery in Bonnertown, TN.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM service at the church.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

William was born in Lawrence County, TN, and graduated from Loretto High School.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee (UT).  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 – 1973 and was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX, for 37 years before his retirement.  As an active community volunteer, he helped to prepare tax returns for fellow seniors and mentored veterans through the Vet to Vet Tennessee program in Maury and Williamson counties.  William was a member of the First Family Church of Columbia, TN.  He enjoyed working in the yard, traveling the world, and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W.A. “Bill” Fowler, Jr. and Nina Pearl Hammond.  He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pat Fowler; children: Richard (Julie) Fowler of Austin, TX, Allison Fowler of Frisco, TX, and Andrea (Ryan) Green of Miami, FL; grandchildren: Andrew, Isaac, and Jack; sister: Marion Joiner of Bonnertown, TN; first cousin: Mike (Linda) Fowler of Nashville, TN; nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and -nephews.

Pallbearers will be Richard Fowler, Mike Fowler, Ryan Green, Mack Hindman, David Hindman, Charles Joiner, Willie Joiner, and Fowler Joiner.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Forever Young Bible Study Class at First Family Church.

The family suggests memorials to be made to Our Sister’s Nest (Women’s Veterans of America, Chapter 45) or the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation.
