Billy Clay, age 76, resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 30th at 1:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Eternity in Maury Memorial Gardens, located adjacent to the funeral home. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 5:00-8:30 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Billy was born May 14, 1940 in Chapel Hill, Tennessee and was the son of the late Thomas Clay and late Mary Elizabeth Taylor Clay. He graduated from Forrest School in Chapel Hill and worked in maintenance for Canteen Vending. Billy was a member of The United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. He was a member of the Marshall County Old Car Club. He enjoyed fishing, country western dancing, and classic cars. He was especially proud of his 1954 Ford. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandson and two great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty five years: Betty J. Agent Clay of Columbia; daughter: Melanie King (Roger Risner) of Columbia; special niece: Kim (Sherman) Williams of Columbia; special nephew: David (Beth) Clay of Columbia; brother: Rodney (Billie) Clay of Lewisburg; brother in law: Wayne Agent of Columbia; grandchild: Jesse Clay King; great grandchildren: Ethan King and Sophia King; and three nieces and one nephew.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Larry Clay.
Pallbearers will be David Clay, Jeremy Vaughn, Daniel Vaughn, Shawn Risner, Jesse King, Carl Clay, and Bobby Clay. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Stephen Simmons and staff, members of Marshall County Old Car Club, all the guys that gather at the Hot Rod Shop on Thursday’s, and John Chadwell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the excellent care that Dr. Stephen Simmons and his staff have given him. Also, thanks to Maury Regional ER, CCU, and step down for their care.
