Mary Armstrong

June 8, 1944 - March 13, 2017

Mary Alene Moore Armstrong “Aunt Kate,” age 72, a resident of Columbia, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Kerry James, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Her body will lie in state on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 8, 1944 in Campbell Station, she was the daughter of the late Joe Ellis Moore and the late Annie Lee Fitzpatrick Moore. She was married to John Henry Armstrong who preceded her in death in April of 1993. Mary was a member of the Potters House Missionary Baptist Church and was a former employee of Weather Tamer Factory and Creekside Sewing Factory.

Mary is survived by her son: Kevin (Jameco) Armstrong of Columbia; daughter: Sherisse Armstrong of Columbia; brothers: Josh Moore, Caleb Moore both of Lewisburg; sisters: Nannie Lowery, Mildred Brown, Rebecca Moore all of Columbia, Margaret Winston of Washington D.C.; granddaughters: Zemeka Bryant, Korevina Armstrong; Jasnek (Oliver) Goodman, Idreka Moore; grandsons: Chamar Avery, Tyrone Pierce, Tyrayl Pierce; great grandchildren: Alajia, Christopher, Ja’zariyana, Kamerria, MacKenzey, and Kemarrian; and daughter-in-law: Beverly Moore.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Claude Efren Moore; brothers: William Moore, Willie Moore, John Fleming; and sisters: Mattie Braden and Brownie Roan.

Pallbearers will be: Jamie Scribner, Anthony Martin, Reginald Brown, Greg Roan, Charles Lowery, Stanley Lowery, LeThet Brown, and Rod Greene. Nieces will serve as flower girls.
