Dudley Chumley

June 29, 1927 - March 9, 2017

Mr. Louis Dudley Chumley, age 89, husband of Novella Edwards Chumley, and a resident of Cliff White Road in Columbia, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 3PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Carl May and grandson Christopher Chumley officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-3PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on June 29, 1927 in Maury County, Dudley was the son of the late George Chumley and the late Eva Lou Ring Chumley. He graduated from Columbia Central High School and served his country in the United States Army. He worked 42 years at Shapard Lumber Company in Columbia until he retired in 1989. Dudley was a member of Northview Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed farming. He also loved coaching baseball, basketball, and football, and sent several of those boys on to college ball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son: Alan (Donna) Chumley of Columbia; sister: Grace Whitley of Columbia; grandson: Christopher Chumley of Columbia; step grandson: Michael Faulk of Santa Fe; nieces: Peggy Smith, Jan (Alan) Wiles, Patricia (Robert) Wakefield; and nephews: Edgar (Donna) Chumley, Robert (Donna) Whitley, and Richard (Debbie) Whitley.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Nolan Chumley.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Faulk, Robert Whitley, Richard Whitley, Edgar Chumley, Harlan Kelley, Douglas Burns, Harry Edwards, and Thomas Wrather. Honorary pallbearers will include: David McClain, Darlene Baxter, Joe Huckaby, George & Joy Turner, J.B. Fitzgerald, Dewey Brady, Jimmy Shouse, Don Sisk, and Bill McEwen.
