Clara Jean Pierce, age 67, resident of Columbia, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11th at 12 noon at Heritage Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.  Her body will lie in state from 9 A.M. until the 12 noon service.  Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.


Clara was a Maury County native born September 16, 1949, and was the daughter of the late Tommy Oakley and late Ruby Virginia Sanford Oakley.  She was a 1967 Carver Smith High School graduate and of the Baptist faith.  She retired from the United States Postal Services.  She worked as a clerk for 36 years.  Some of her hobbies included quilting, cooking, and fishing.  Clara was an amazing lady that loved helping other people and a wonderful listener.  She was a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son: Harold S. Pierce, Jr.; daughter: Zenobia Y. Pierce; brother: William T. Oakley; sister: Lillian M. Oakley; grandchildren: Brittany R. Pierce, Bridgette R. Smith, Nichelle B. Pierce, and Jamal M. Robinson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Harold S. Pierce, Sr.; and brothers: Ronnie L. Oakley and James A. Oakley.

Pallbearers will be Jamal M. Robinson, William Mayes, Robert Harris, Jahari Armstrong, Jaydan Armstrong, and Jerome Pierce.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Sanford and Jimmy Harris.
