Dr. Gerald “Wooley” Mathias, age 78, of Columbia, Tennessee went to be with His Lord Jesus on March 1, 2017.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 6PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Father Brian Harden officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-6PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2PM at Ever Rest Memorial Park: 8315 E. Logansport Road, Logansport, IN 46947. Heritage Funeral Home of Columbia, TN is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born in Deedsville, Indiana on May 20, 1938, and was the third son of Jacob E. Mathias and Myrtle Swope Mathias. He grew up in Peru, Indiana and graduated from Peru High School and married his high school sweetheart, Marilynn Alwine, who survives him. They have two sons: Kevin Mathias of Hillsborough, NC and Dr. Bradford Mathias of Columbia, TN.

He graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic and conducted his practice in Tuscola, IL for 33 years. He was involved in the formation of the Chiropractic Knights of the Round Table. His last years were spent in Spring Hill and Columbia, Tennessee where he was active in the Four Winds Anglican Mission. He is remembered as a loving, caring servant of Jesus.

Along with his wife and sons, he is survived by his six grandchildren: David Mathias of Mebane, NC, Suzanna Vernon of Raleigh, NC, Colleen Mathias of Raleigh, NC, Jessica Mathias of Columbia, TN, Bethany Mathias of Columbia, TN, Caleb Mathias of Columbia, TN; and brother: Dr. Richard Mathias of Sullivan, IL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Mathias.

Honorary pallbearers will include: Caleb Mathias, David Mathias, Kevin Herrick, Gardiner Jones, Pat Schneider, Kevin Hale, Richard Morton, and Rich Mathias.
